Random Updates

Erek is in Lake Placid for some hockey tournament for the weekend, so I'm runnin' the show for the whole weekend. Free beer, anyone? I don't think he realizes what he's got in store when he returns. (Literally.)

We've officially started our "wine of the week" in store now, in addition to telling you about some wines on this blog. You can find this section on our rack by our front door. We'll also be selling the wine of the week at 10% off. You can expect updates to this every Thursday. Usually we'll pick a wine that we feel is better than it's price and may not be as well known to our customers. So hopefully you'll be able to try some new things and save some money.

This week is one of my favorites, actually. Cat Amongst The Pigeons 2007 Shiraz. We couldn't keep the '06 vintage on the shelf. People loved it. The 2007 is getting comparable reviews. One review reads; "Lovely nose of crush blue fruits and orange rind. Full-bodied, but nicely balanced by fresh acidity."

We have it priced at $16.99, but again, you'll get 10% off this week.

Caps play at 12:30 today. Sabres at 9. Be sure to stop in and stock up for that game tomorrow. Of course I'm talking about the Oklahoma City Thunder (10-38) @ Sacramento Kings (11-36). You'll need the booze. 3 pm. Watch it. I dare you.

Wolaver's Brown Ale

This beer has everything you look for in an English-style brown ale. It's nutty, malty, toasty, and has that ever-so-slightly hopped finish. Delicious.

And as of today, we now carry it in 6-packs at $8.99 a pop. If you're a fan of Smuttynose Old Brown Dog or Abita's Turbodog, then this beer is one you'll certainly enjoy. As an added bonus, Wolaver's differs from most other brews in that it is certified organic. To read full reviews and find more information, go to BeerAdvocate. We warn you that if you haven't been there before, you may find yourself browsing for a few hours.

And don't forget we also have Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout in stock regularly as well.

Wine of the Day

Every once in a while we will be posting some new items that we feel are good values, because in this tight economy who can't use a value or two? I just received my shipment from Monsieur Touton today (one of our best value wine distributors) and we have a great deal to offer you.

La Cattura Poggio Al Casone 2006 is a full-bodied Italian red that would be perfect for when you want a bold wine. A blend of Terodego and Syrah, this wine shows dark fruits, sweet oak, and soft tannins. It received 90 points from the Wine spectator, and retails for $14.99.

I hope that everyone gets a chance to enjoy this wine over some good food and conversation. Make sure you come back here to discover new values and favorites of ours, or just stop in to the store and say hello.

Tasting @ Urban Cellars This Friday

I'm currently enjoying Rogue's Hazelnut Brown Nectar (a gift from the Gods and my personal favorite beer - ever), and got a nice little email from Ed down at our little sister store, Urban Cellars. Apparently, they're doing a French Wine tasting this Friday, January 23rd from 4 - 8pm. More information is available here. Thought I'd pass the word along to anyone interested. That is all. Carry on.

Oh, and the Caps are losing. (hehehe.)

New Southern Tier Beer In!

So I've got a stack of beer to put away, but I figured I'd let it relax on our floors for a bit. In more exciting news, we just got in this year's Southern Tier "Gemini," an unfiltered imperial IPA. Basically it's for people that want to be kicked in the ass. Everything else in Southern Tier's Imperial series has REALLY impressed us (Choklat, Oat, Creme Brule) so we are very excited to try this one.

If you're interested, we have plenty cold and some on display at the register. At $8.99 for a 22 oz.-er, it's not badly priced either.

Now back to putting away this other crap.

Ovie in OT!!!

Caps Win! Caps Win!

Ovie does it again. Caps won in overtime against the Islanders this afternoon on another goal from Ovechkin. In other news it's still slow at the shop, so please stop in and say hi to both Jen and Jon, whom i'm sure will be playing thirteen (our card game of choice).

Caps are winning 1-0

It's so boring here that Erek is looking up info on a new patch update for World of Warcraft. What a dork... and I think I need a beer.

We have nothing to do and want to share our boredom with you...

...so we've started the official RPW&L blog! (applause.)

Seriously though, we're going to put up info about new products, hockey, sales, tastings, and hockey. It's possible that we may share some stories about what's happening here, too. So be prepared to hear about crazy customers (which you could be in!) and card games (currently Erek is leading Jon with 88 wins to Jon's 61.)

Until something exciting happens, enjoy the snow. We'll be here playing cards and watching hockey (- Caps play at 2, Sabres at 7.)
